To say thank you for all your support this year, we’re adding some festive themed videos to our Free Workshops section in the run up to Christmas. You will find my video workshop Advent Art Challenge along with a printable set of tags so you can join in and work along. The idea of the challenge is to find a bit of creative time for yourself at this busy time of year.
I’ve printed my tags to some heavy paper just using my home printer and cut them out. There are loads of ways you can decorate your tags. I’m working in batches and have started by adding some colour. I’ve used oil pastels to add a frame to the very edge of the tags.
Next I’m adding more colour with some watercolour in spray bottles. I start with yellow first, but then build up other colours in layers allowing them to mix and merge on the tag. If you haven’t got watercolour in spray bottles, then just paint it on with a large brush keeping the washes intensely coloured, but quite fluid so they blend and move on the paper.
The oil pastel will resist the watercolour spray paint and I just love the effect!
The paint looks so rich and luscious when it’s wet. It will dry much flatter, but we can always bring that shine and depth back with a varnish layer at the end.
Now I’ll leave these to dry, paint the backs in the same way and I’ll be ready for the next stage. Hope you’re enjoying finding a bit of time each day to do something creative. I don’t know about you, but even just a few minutes of splashing colour around saves my sanity!
Bye for now,
