In the second part of this workshop, see how Linda’s added decorative quilting and appliqué detail to the table runner using digital embroidery, machine quilting and hand quilting. You can use any combination of these to complete your own version!

To work along with this part of the workshop you’ll need:

Your pieced runner from Part 1
Selection of machine threads for decorative stitching
Hand quilting thread
Double sided fusible webbing – Linda used Bondaweb
Chalk marker or pencil
Bias binding to edge runner

Inspired by Ceramics: Table Runner – Part 1

 

Discover how Linda chooses a fabric colour palette for a summer table runner inspired by a collection of hand painted ceramics. Follow our lead and be inspired by your tableware to make a perfectly coordinating quilted table runner. She then uses stitch and flip technique in a quilt as you go method of piecing. This is an ideal project for making use of many coloured scraps.

To join in you’ll need:

Strips of fabrics of varying widths to suit your inspiration
Cotton fabric long enough to back the table runner
Same size length of batting/wadding (Linda uses 80/20)
Marker pen and ruler
Sewing machine
Iron
