Altered Book – Colour

Paper Vessels and Jewellery
In this archive collection of 4 video workshops Linda will guide you through two projects. First, try your hand at making paper pulp and moulding vessels. Recycle paper and build some beautiful forms. In the following workshop she shows you how to decorate the vessels you've made. Next try making your own paper beads with a twist. These are made with special papers from your stash to add meaning and interesting surface design. In the final workshop Linda will show you how you can put your handmade beads to use in intriguing 'talisman' jewellery.

Use Procion MX dyes to colour natural fibre fabrics for fabulous results. You'll only require simple equipment and Laura will guide you through the processes step-by-step.
In this archive collection of 3 videos Linda demonstrates a wide variety of creative techniques using stencilling to produce beautiful and unique designs. She describes her favourite products and explains every step of the process to make a really attractive wallhanging. Finally she explains the hows and whys of completing the work with machine quilting. Linda proves that you can achieve lots of very different results using just one stencil. All of the techniques she includes could be used in many different projects.

Surface Decoration Techniques
In this exciting collection of three videos Laura demonstrates lots of ways to create totally individual fabric surfaces using a variety of techniques. She explains how she transforms an already quilted or embroidered textile with discharge paste and demonstrates ways to modify the colours of a quilt or embroidery with an application of acrylic paint. In the final video she explains a simple and effective method of producing text on fabric using a rubbing technique with stencils and Markal Paintstiks.
Rubbings: Sketchbook and Applique
In this collection you'll discover four video workshops where Linda will demonstrate everything you need to know to use the simple technique of rubbings in a variety of creative ways to make beautiful pages in your sketchbook. Linda will then demonstrate how she uses the sketchbook ideas to inspire a lovely stitched appliqué panel using the same rubbing technique directly to fabric.
Pictorial Applique: Birds
In this set of two videos Linda shows exactly how she chooses a suitable photograph as reference, drafts a pattern, selects the perfect fabrics and uses double-sided fusible webbing to create an appliqué panel. She’ll demonstrate free motion quilting and the final details that will make your panel stand out from the ordinary. You’ll see step by step how to recreate something similar whether you choose to work with a bird motif as Linda does or choose your own source of inspiration - the techniques will work beautifully for any appliqué subject.
Are you always nervous about getting started in a new sketchbook? Do the pristine pages scare you? Let me reassure you that you're not alone! In this collection of three videos you'll learn how to lose the blank, white page quickly and easily. Laura shows how she gets lots of glorious colour on her pages using water based paints, drawing inks and soluble pastels. She demonstrates step by step how she produces fascinating background effects for her sketchbook and art journaling work and how she constantly evaluates and responds to what she's created on the page.

Painterly Piecing, Applique and Hand Dyeing
We just love hand dyed fabrics, there's no better way to create just the colours and colour combinations that we want for our work. In this video collection we'll show you how to dye your own fabrics and then use them in painterly appliqué and patchwork projects.
Think of collagraph as a mix between collage and print. In this two-part workshop find out how to make your own collaged plate from simple materials. Then see how to ink and print the plate using nothing more than a pasta machine in lieu of a print press.
Linda looks to the traditional textiles of the Banjara for inspiration. Join her to look at some examples and to study the colours, techniques and patterns of these decorative and heavily stitched cloths.
