Hello everyone, Laura here!
This week on DMTV you’ll find my workshop called Bonded Appliqué: Quilting. In the video I’ll demonstrate different ways to deal with the raw edges of bonded appliqué shapes that also quilt the project at the same time.
I thought you might like to see how one of the samples turned out – I made it into a cushion!
I completed the quilting around the shapes as I show you in the video. For the background areas I continued the grid structure that the appliqué design is based on. It’s pretty simple lines but I think that’s all it needed.
On the back, I found a coordinating fabric and set a covered zip so that the cushion cover is removable. Covering the zip with a flap of fabric is a quick and easy way to hide the zip so it looks smart and has the added bonus that if you zip colour doesn’t quite match the project, it doesn’t matter!
Good luck with your bonded appliqué quilting.
Love Laura
