Some of the restrictions are gradually being eased but I’m not sure how ready any of us are yet. After staying home for so many weeks it feels unnatural to be venturing out even if it is only as far as Laura’s garden and studio! With proper measures in place we have been able to resume making videos in the Wooden House so life is a little more normal. Last week I showed how I transfer an image or pattern to a sketchbook page using oil pastel monoprint.
I know I shouldn’t say this because so many people are in dire straits with lockdown but I have always thought of my studio as a place of sanctuary and so being able to spend lots more time there has been no burden at all. The iris are in full flower in the garden right now and make perfect subjects for a painting. Here’s what’s on my drawing board this morning. It’s a similar technique to last week’s video but takes it a step or two further.
I’ve used a mixed media technique that I demonstrate in the next video for DMTV. I think there’s huge potential with this and even novice painters can achieve great results.
If I zoom in real close you can see how oil pastel adds colour and interest to a watercolour painting. It even helps control the flow of the paint.
You’ll be able to find the second of the videos in the Painting Classroom very soon. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
Bye for now – Linda x
