Our newsletter for 19th December 2019
Season’s Greetings to you!
This will be our last newsletter before Christmas and so we’d like to take the opportunity to wish you all the very best for the festive season and the New Year. We hope it is filled with health, happiness and creativity.
We’d also like to thank you for your support and enthusiasm for our work during 2019. We’ve lost count of the number of workshops we’ve created for DesignMatters TV this year but it must be getting on for 50. Phew! This week we had one of our regular meetings where we get our heads together and make a rough plan for what we’re doing next. We have lots of fun stuff planned for our 2020 online workshops and we look forward to sharing those with you.
We received a lovely email this week and a photo from Lorna.
“I have been interested in your work since I bought your book many years ago. You and Laura encourage people to try new things and I have learned so much. Like – mark making is truly just that……..marks on a page in different shapes, sizes, color, etc. I told myself, all my life I could not draw. Following you two I felt compelled to at least try. So last June I started drawing and haven’t stopped yet. This is my favorite.”Lorna says
First let’s take a look at Module 3 of our Creative Sketchbooks course. Here’s Linda…
It’s heartwarming to receive a message like this, and isn’t Lorna’s drawing just ‘wow’! So pleased that we have been able to inspire Lorna to try something new and discover a hidden talent. We hope that we might have encouraged you too. If there’s something you’ve been eager to work with, but not known where to start, then why not drop us a line and maybe we can fit it into the schedule for 2020.
New on DesignMatters this week…
Video Workshop – Foiling on Fabric
Has anyone really got the time to embroider a bauble? I know, I know, it seems indulgent. But honestly, there’s so much throwaway, mass produced plastic tat around at this time of year, I just need to do something that’s handmade and special. So I present to you, my machine embroidered bauble.
Join me in this new workshop to try working with dissolvable fabric, freehand stitching and gemstone embellishments and make something beautiful for your tree. If you’ve recently bought one of our Madeira thread boxes they’ll be perfect for this project!
Ways to watch:
If you have a DesignMatters TV Membership you’ll find this workshop is automatically available to you, just click on the link above.
If you don’t have a Membership, you can purchase this workshop as a one-off for £1.50. You might like to use Classroom Credits to do this. As you know we are gradually phasing memberships out and a couple of months ago we introduced the Classroom Credit option. Many thanks to those of you who have already added credit to your accounts – we hope you find redeeming them against any of the new videos or any title in the Classrooms is really straightforward. And don’t forget, any purchased videos stay in your account for unlimited viewing!
Don’t forget to head over to the Christmas Classroom on the website for all your festive themed workshops.
Most of the content you’ll find there is free so if you’re looking for inspiration to get creative over the holidays it’s the place to go.
You’ll find ideas for printing giftwrap, greetings cards, making decorations and festive items for your home.
Christmas Card Free Printables
If you’ll be sending greetings cards this year maybe you’ll be interested in our free printables that you’ll find on the website. We have the robin, below, and this year’s new image, the partridge in a pear tree. Both are original paintings by Linda and if you click on the images you’ll find printable versions to make your own greetings cards.
