Has it really been a week since the first day of Festival? It’s funny, these events that you work for months towards and then they are over in a moment! We had a lovely time at this year’s show, so good to be back, and especially to say hello to so many of you.
We’re delighted to say that we sold every one of the Ruby Star Raffle tickets raising an incredible £5000 for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. The draw was made and the sewing machine is heading to Scotland, the Ruby Quilt to the US, Jill’s quilt to the UK, Catherine’s quilt to the Netherlands and both thread sets to UK winners. Congratulations to each and every one of you and many thanks to everyone else who purchased a ticket and supported us.
I took all of your donations and the funds raised by the raffle to the Lingen Davies office on Monday and needless to say they were delighted with the outcome. We’re awaiting a final fundraising total, but as soon as it’s all been totted up we’ll let you know.
We posted a few of our favourite things from Festival over on our Instagram feeds, but I have to share my overall favourite piece from the show, which was conveniently located just opposite to our stand. It was this incredible portrait piece by Ula Buczkowska.

Fabulous, I’m sure you’ll agree. Please visit her website if you’d like to find out more about it.
I have a thing for portraits at the moment and this is one of the most painterly I’ve seen done in fabric and stitch.

There were of course shopping opportunities at the show and I treated myself to a a bit of dressmaking fabric. I’ve posted the rest of my haul over on my blog if you’d like to see what I’ll be sewing over the next few weeks.
New Video Workshop – Photographs + Sketchbooks
Now back to work! Over on the website we have a new video workshop for you. Join me in the studio for some sketchbook inspiration. I don’t know about you, but I had a ton of photos on my phone and never printed them out. Recently I’ve started using one of those apps to get some prints each month and I’m finding they’re perfect for use in my sketchbook. In this week’s video I’ll show you some of the pages and share my tips for how you can use photos in your own sketchbooks.
DMTV Members can view this video now, if you’re not a Member why not consider joining us? You can check out our free videos to give you a taste of what we offer and sign up for access to over 30 videos for just £12.
Finally, just a heads up on an exhibition and some workshops over in Canada involving our friend Catherine Nicholls.
Catherine will be exhibiting with Elizabeth Harris at FibreWorks on the Sunshine Coast from the end of September. Details below…
