Recycling Cards for Paper Piecing

We all know it’s good to recycle, but of course it’s even better to reuse stuff. Christmas cards are an ideal candidate. It’s great to receive a card of course, but what a waste they can be too. Finding a second use for them makes me feel a bit better!

I’m sure I’ve talked about it on my blog in previous years, I like to use cards as papers for English paper piecing. Now, if you’ve got really posh friends who send fancy cards with really heavy card, then they won’t do, they’ll be too thick to tack through. You need to sort out the thinner cards. Remove any embellishments and you’re good to go.

Draw around a master template as many times as you can to fill the card. I’ve got some perspex shapes because I do quite a bit of EPP, but otherwise, just make an accurate card master shape to draw around. Cut them out accurately, don’t forget, the precision of your drawing and cutting out will be reflected in your patchwork.

I haven’t got a specific project in mind right now, so I’m just prepping papers and storing them in bags so I’ll be ready as soon as inspiration strikes!

Bye for now,
